Thee Black Storm Cheer Squad

Founded April 16th, 2021 on the campus of Kennesaw State University by Lanette Thompson, Keiavia Kirkland, Mikayla Johnson and Keyniah O’Neal. This organization was created to promote inclusivity, bring together those with similar interests, and introduce cultural activities to the university. BSCS does not only pride itself on the art of performance but on bringing students together to support their academic endeavors and passions. BSCS encourages our members to play their part in the community and within the school.

Mission Statement

To practice, create, volunteer, perform and compete as a Stomp 'N Shake cheer organization.

My name is Lanette Tiana Thompson, and I am one of the illustrious founders of the Black Storm Cheer Squad. I’m currently attending Kennesaw State University to pursue a career in the education field, earning a bachelor's degree in science in elementary education. I am a true Fort Valley, GA, native at heart, but I was born in Orlando, FL. As a young child, I spent years dancing with different performing arts groups. I’ve always had a passion for fine arts; I just ventured in another direction when I moved to Georgia. It wasn’t until I became a freshman in high school that I discovered a new style of cheering—stomp and shake. I watched different schools like WSSU, VSU, and SAU. I knew then that I wanted to cheer exactly like that. Years went by, and I met a fabulous group of ladies willing to bring the culture of Stomp 'N Shake to a predominantly white institution. As a collective, we turned an idea into reality or in this case, Black Storm Cheer Squad.

I am Mikayla Johnson from Atlanta, GA. I am a Civil Engineer major at Kennesaw State University. Stomp and shake to me is a pathway that allowed me to gain confidence within myself while also, forming beautiful connections with many other talented people! Seeing this organization grow and all of the genuine support Thee Black Storm receives is something I will forever be grateful for.

Kennesaw State University

As the first Stomp ‘N Shake cheer team at Kennesaw State University, Thee Black Storm Cheer Squad has gained the hearts of many students, parents, and followers in the community with our performances around campus. We have partnered with Books for Africa, CARES pantry, and MUST ministries to practice giving back to our community and gaining service hours. In 2021, our organization was awarded Most Spirited by student nominations. We were very honored to receive this achievement that lets us know the positive impact we are making within the school community.
